- a ceramic substrate comprising an inner bearing surface and a treated outer surface;
a metallic scaffold adapted for osseointegration; and
a multi-layer construct positioned between the ceramic substrate and the metallic scaffold, the multi-layer construct comprising;
an inner layer formed of a first material, the inner layer positioned on the treated outer surface, wherein the first material is a metallic material;
an intermediate layer formed of a second material; and
an outer layer formed of a third material, wherein the second material is different from the first material and the third material.
