    m and a second dimension of at least five times as large as the first dimension, the composite film having a mass of silicon or silicon-based elements between 70 and 95 percent,wherein the silicon or silicon-based elements form an interconnected array,wherein the silicon or silicon-based elements are capable of lithium insertion and removal, andwherein the silicon or silicon-based elements are selected from the group consisting of hollow tubes, ribbons and flakes.
