1. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) operable to perform a random access procedure, the WTRU comprising:

  • circuitry configured to receive a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) order, wherein the PDCCH order includes a carrier indicator field (CIF);

    the circuitry is further configured in response to the PDCCH order to transmit a random access preamble on a component carrier, selected from a plurality of component carriers, the component carrier indicated by the CIF, wherein the component carrier indicated by the CIF is a member of a group of component carriers of the plurality of component carriers, and further wherein the group of component carriers have a same timing alignment (TA);

    the circuitry is further configured to receive a random access response (RAR) on a primary downlink component carrier in response to the random access preamble, wherein the RAR includes a timing advance; and

    the circuitry is further configured to use the timing advance to adjust uplink transmission timing via any component carrier of the group of component carriers.
