1. A device for monitoring food consumption comprising:

  • a finger ring;

    wherein this finger ring further comprises a motion sensor, wherein this motion sensor automatically collects data that is used to detect an eating-related action;

    wherein this finger ring further comprises a camera, wherein the person is prompted to use this camera to take pictures of food at two or more different times and from two or more different angles when data from the motion sensor indicates the eating-related action, and wherein the person is prompted by a prompt which is selected from the group consisting of;

    an auditory signal, a display screen, an electromagnetic signal, a graphic display, a mild shock, music, a phone call, a sound, a tactile signal, a text message, a tone, a vibration, a visual signal, and a voice interface; and

    wherein this finger ring further comprises a spectroscopy sensor, wherein the person is prompted to use this spectroscopy sensor to record the results of interaction between food and light energy when data from the motion sensor indicates the eating-related action;

    wherein the person is prompted by a prompt selected from the group consisting of;

    an auditory signal, a display screen, an electromagnetic signal, a graphic display, a mild shock, music, a phone call, a sound, a tactile signal, a text message, a tone, a vibration, a visual signal, and a voice interface; and

    a data analysis component, wherein this component analyzes data from the motion sensor, pictures from the camera, and/or results from the spectroscopy sensor in order to estimate the types and amounts of foods, ingredients, nutrients, and/or calories that are consumed by the person.
