Apparatus and method for detecting a foreign object mounted in the near range of an input means used for identification and/or authentication, input means and service machine
First Claim
1. An apparatus for detecting a foreign object mounted in the near range of an input device used for identification and/or authentication, comprising:
- a coupler that is arranged to supply an oscillating signal to two input terminals of an antenna for generating a standing wave by the antenna, to supply the oscillating signal with a predetermined level to a detection device and to couple out, for the detection device, a reflection signal received by the antenna, andto detect a phase difference between the supplied oscillating signal with the predetermined level and the reflection signal that is coupled out, in order to detect the foreign object, wherein the antenna is configured as a circularly polarized patch antenna with emission characteristics that are constant, within a tolerance, in a monitoring range of the apparatus.

Abstract
The apparatus for detecting a foreign object mounted in the near range of an input means used for identification and/or authentication includes at least a coupler. The coupler is arranged to supply an oscillating signal to two input terminals of an antenna for generating a standing wave, to supply the oscillating signal with a predetermined level to a detection device, and to couple out, for the detection device, a reflection signal received by the antenna. Furthermore, the coupler is arranged to detect a phase difference between the supplied oscillating signal with the predetermined level and the reflection signal that is coupled out, in order to detect the foreign object.

19. A method for detecting a foreign object mounted in the near range of an input device used for identification and/or authentication, comprising the steps:
-
supplying an oscillating signal to the two input terminals of an antenna for generating a standing wave by the antenna, wherein the antenna is configured as a circularly polarized patch antenna with emission characteristics that are constant, within a tolerance, in a monitoring range of the apparatus; supplying the oscillating signal with a predetermined level to a detection device, coupling out, to the detection device, a reflection signal received by the antenna, and detecting, with the detection device, a phase difference between the supplied oscillating signal with the predetermined level and the reflection signal that is coupled out, in order to detect the foreign object.
