1. A towel dispenser, comprising:

  • (a) a housing for receiving toweling, wherein the toweling includes a first towel and a second towel that are connected together and separable at a perforation formed between the first towel and the second towel, the dispenser being configured to define a path for the toweling within the housing;

    (b) a motor positioned within the housing;

    (c) a sensor for sensing the perforation and generating a signal indicative of the presence of the perforation; and

    (d) a controller positioned within the housing and electrically connected to the motor and to the sensor;

    (e) wherein the controller is configured to deactivate the motor after the sensor generates the signal indicative of the presence of the perforation; and

    (f) further comprising a drive roller and a sensor roller, wherein the toweling contacts the drive roller along the path after it contacts the sensor roller along the path, wherein the motor drives the drive roller and the sensor roller such that the toweling extending along the path between the drive roller and the sensor roller is sufficiently tensioned so as to expand the perforation when in proximity to the sensor.
