1. A knitted implantable electrode assembly comprising:

  • at least one biocompatible implantable, electrically non-conductive filament arranged in an intermeshed looped structure having substantially adjacent parallel rows each row stitched to an adjacent row with one or more loops, andat least one biocompatible implantable, electrically conductive filament having first and second ends wound around spaced sections of the at least one non-conductive filament, wherein the first end is intertwined with a first row of the at least one non-conductive filament to form a connector contact, and the second end is intertwined with a second row of the at least one non-conductive filament to form an electrode, and wherein the first and second rows are spaced from one another and the connector contact and electrode are spaced from one another by one or more third rows of the at least one non-conductive filament between the connector contact and the electrode.
