a detectable taggant comprising a plurality of nano-antennas having a resonance frequency of about 300 GHz to about 800 THz on the radio frequency tag, wherein information is encoded on the detectable taggant using at least one property of the plurality of nano-antennas; disposing the detectable taggant on the radio frequency tag, wherein the nano-antenna is adapted to be associated with the radio frequency tag by a thiol-containing moiety; and retrieving the information encoded on the detectable taggant.
