1. A display device with a touch detection function comprising:
- a variable focus lens unit that includesa first substrate,a second substrate,a first electrode included in the first substrate,a second electrode included in the second substrate, anda variable focus layer that is provided between the first electrode side of the first substrate and the second electrode side of the second substrate and in which a refractive index of transmitted light varies depending on a certain signal applied between the first electrode and the second electrode to form lenses;
a display unit that is arranged to face the variable focus layer and that includes a display region that displays an image via the variable focus lens unit;
a drive electrode that is divided into a plurality of pieces and that is arranged in the display unit or at a position opposed to the display region, an AC rectangular wave being applied to the drive electrode by an AC signal source; and
a touch detection unit configured to detect a position of a proximity object using one of the first electrode and the second electrode as a touch detection electrode based on a touch detection signal according to a change in capacitance formed between the drive electrode and the touch detection electrode, the touch detection signal being formed based on a current that is generated on the touch detection electrode in response to the AC rectangular wave and is output from the touch detection electrode.

a variable focus lens unit that includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a first electrode included in the first substrate, a second electrode included in the second substrate, and a variable focus layer that is provided between the first electrode side of the first substrate and the second electrode side of the second substrate and in which a refractive index of transmitted light varies depending on a certain signal applied between the first electrode and the second electrode to form lenses; a display unit that is arranged to face the variable focus layer and that includes a display region that displays an image via the variable focus lens unit; a drive electrode that is divided into a plurality of pieces and that is arranged in the display unit or at a position opposed to the display region, an AC rectangular wave being applied to the drive electrode by an AC signal source; a touch detection electrode that is divided into a plurality of pieces; and a touch detection unit configured to detect a position of a proximity object using one of the first electrode and the second electrode as a touch detection electrode based on a touch detection signal according to a change in capacitance formed between the touch detection electrode and the drive electrode, a touch detection signal being formed based on a current that is generated on the touch detection electrode in response to the AC rectangular wave and is output from the touch detection electrode, wherein each of the first electrode and the second electrode is divided, a direction in which the frist electrode extends is parallel to a direction in which the second electrode extends, and a width of one of the first electrode and the second electrode to which a common potential for variable focus is applied is enlarged.

a variable focus lens unit that includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a first electrode included in the first substrate, a second electrode included in the second substrate, and a variable focus layer that is provided between the first electrode side of the first substrate and the second electrode side of the second substrate and in which a refractive index of transmitted light varies depending on a certain signal applied between the first electrode and the second electrode to form lenses; a drive electrode that is divided into a plurality of pieces;
an AC rectangular wave being applied to the drive electrode by an AC signal source; anda touch detection unit configured to detect a position of a proximity object using one of the first electrode and the second electrode as a touch detection electrode based on a touch detection signal according to a change in capacitance formed between the drive electrode and the touch detection electrode, the touch detection signal being formed based on a current that is generated on the touch detection electrode in response to the AC rectangular wave and is output from the touch detection electrode, wherein when one of the first electrode and the second electrode serves as the touch detection electrode, the other one of the first electrode and the second electrode serves as the drive electrode.
