Patch-sized fluid delivery systems and methods
First Claim
1. A delivery device comprising:
- a first housing portion;
a second housing portion configured to selectively engage with and disengage from the first housing portion;
a rotatable member supporting a grouping of coupled projections for movement in an annular path with the rotation of the rotatable member;
a resilient member supported by the first housing portion and having a flexible portion and arranged within at least a portion of the annular path of the grouping of coupled projections to be engaged at a single location along the annular path, in turn, by the grouping of coupled projections when the second housing portion and the first housing portion are engaged, the flexible portion of the resilient member being resiliently collapsible at the single location of engagement of the grouping of coupled projections to provide an intermittent pulse of force at the single location as the rotatable member rotates the grouping of coupled projections along the annular path while the second housing portion and first housing portion are engaged, the resilient member being connectable in fluid flow communication with an injection site, wherein the flexible portion of the resilient member is supported on a flat support surface;
a reservoir having an interior volume for containing a fluid, the interior volume of the reservoir being in fluid flow communication with the resilient member; and
a motor supported by the second housing portion and operatively coupled to the rotatable member for selectively rotating the rotatable member.

Abstract
A patch-sized fluid delivery device may include a reusable portion and a disposable portion. The disposable portion may include components that come into contact with the fluid, while the reusable portion may include only components that do not come into contact with the fluid. Redundant systems, such as redundant controllers, power sources, motor actuators, and alarms, may be provided. Alternatively or additionally, certain components can be multi-functional, such a microphones and loudspeakers that may be used for both acoustic volume sensing and for other functions and a coil that may be used as both an inductive coupler for a battery recharger and an antenna for a wireless transceiver. Various types of network interfaces may be provided in order to allow for remote control and monitoring of the device.

8. A delivery device comprising:
-
a rotatable member supporting at least one coupled projection for movement in an annular path with the rotation of the member; a backstop arranged to abut a resilient member; a collapsible reservoir; wherein the resilient member is arranged between the grouping of coupled projections and the backstop, the resilient member arranged to flex in one direction to reduce the volume of the reservoir upon movement of the rotatable member associated with the resilient member in a first direction, wherein the grouping of coupled projections arranged to engage, in turn, the resilient member at a single location, wherein the grouping of coupled projections provide an intermittent pulse of force at the single location; an inlet channel provided in fluid flow communication with the reservoir; and an outlet channel provided in fluid flow communication with the reservoir; wherein fluid is drawn from the reservoir, through the inlet channel; and wherein fluid is driven through the outlet channel upon movement of the rotatable member. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10)
