1. A computer-implemented method of representing and utilizing data related to a business unit in a sales performance management system, comprising the steps of:

  • receiving a user input selecting an entity name representing the business unit;

    generating an entity table associated with the entity name and configured to store data related to the business unit in a storage device, the entity table having data fields including an explicit entity ID field and an internal entity ID field;

    populating the explicit entity ID field of the entity table with explicit entity ID values that each uniquely identifies an instance of the business unit, wherein no two explicit entity ID values are identical;

    generating a unique internal entity ID value for each one of the explicit entity ID values, wherein no two entity ID values are identical;

    associating each internal entity ID value with a corresponding one of the explicit entity ID values;

    storing the internal entity ID values in the internal entity ID field of the entity table;

    associating the entity table with a data table, separate from the entity table, such that at least one of the explicit entity ID values is displayed, but not stored, in an ID field of the data table via a display device, while the corresponding internal entity ID value associated with the at least one explicit entity ID value is stored in another ID field in the data table but is not displayed.
