1. A transmission control method by a base station serving a plurality of mobile stations in a multi-carrier communication system, the communication system utilizing a transmission structure with time slots in the time domain and frequency subchannels in the frequency domain, the method comprising:
- determining a set of mobile station-based transmission parameters to be used for a subsequent transmission, the set of transmission parameters indicating a pilot pattern for one or more frequency subchannels utilized by the system, wherein the pilot pattern differs from one time slot to another and wherein the pilot pattern is based on channel conditions or other factors; and
sending a control message to a mobile station, the control message providing information regarding the set of transmission parameters.
