1. A method for performing a contextual search to locate content associated with a media file, comprising:

  • at a media device, receiving a request from a user to perform a contextual search based on a media file;

    determining a type of the media file;

    presenting a contextual search menu to the user, wherein the contextual search menu includes one or more contextual search query types, and wherein the one or more contextual search query types are based on the type of the media file;

    receiving from the user a selected contextual search query type selected from the one or more contextual search query types;

    querying one or more search modules, each associated with one or more content sources, to determine which one or more search modules can perform the selected contextual search query type;

    requesting that one or more search modules that can perform the selected contextual search query type perform the selected contextual search query against one or more selected content sources associated with the one or more search module;

    receiving search results from the one or more search modules, wherein the search results include links to one or more files associated with the one or more selected content sources; and

    displaying the search results to the user.
