1. An apparatus for joining sections of tissue, comprising:
- a handle assembly including an indicator member;
an elongated body portion extending distally from the handle assembly, said elongated body portion having a distal portion mounting structure including a first portion and a second portion disposed distally of the first portion, said first and second portions being relatively movable for joining sections of tissue; and
a screw stop disposed in the handle assembly configured to engage the indicator member,wherein the indicator member is configured to provide a tactile indication upon a change in spacing between the first and second portions of the distal portion mounting structure.

Abstract
This application is directed to a surgical stapling device for performing circular anastomoses. The surgical stapling device includes a handle portion, an elongated body portion and a head portion including an anvil assembly and a shell assembly. A tactile indication mechanism is also provided for notifying a surgeon that the device has been fired and for notifying a surgeon that the anvil head has been unapproximated a distance sufficient to permit the anvil head to tilt.

a handle assembly including an approximation knob and a firing trigger assembly including a firing trigger, the firing trigger being movable between an unactuated position and an actuated position; an elongated body portion extending distally from the handle assembly; a cartridge releasably mounted to the elongated body portion; an approximation mechanism including the approximation knob and a screw including a screw stop movably disposed thereon and including an extension; and a tactile indicator operably connected to the handle assembly and being movable between a retracted position and an extended position, wherein the extension of the screw stop is positioned to engage the tactile indicator in the extended position to provide a tactile indication to an operator.
