1. A method, comprising:
- detecting, by a system comprising a processor, signal interference in a first segment of a plurality of segments occurring in a radio frequency spectrum of a wireless communication system;
determining, by the system, according to the signal interference a measure of quality of service of the first segment for transmitting voice traffic;
comparing, by the system, the measure of quality of service to a desired measure of quality of service measure for voice traffic;
determining, by the system, from the comparison that the first segment is not suitable for voice traffic;
determining, by the system, whether non-voice traffic is available for redirection to the first segment;
responsive to a first determination that the non-voice traffic is available for redirection to the first segment, assigning, by the system, the non-voice traffic to the first segment while the first segment is affected by the signal interference;
responsive to a second determination that the non-voice traffic is unavailable for redirection to the first segment, disabling, by the system, use of the first segment while the first segment is affected by the signal interference; and
responsive to a third determination that non-voice traffic is available for redirection to the first segment and a fourth determination that the first segment is not suitable for the non-voice traffic according to a desired quality of service measure for non-voice traffic, disabling, by the system, use of the first segment while the first segment is affected by the signal interference.

A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may perform, for example, a method for detecting signal interference in a first segment of a plurality of segments of a radio frequency spectrum of a wireless communication system, determining according to the signal interference a measure of quality of service of the first segment for transmitting voice traffic, comparing the measure of quality of service to a desired measure of quality of service measure for voice traffic, determining from the comparison that the first segment is not suitable for voice traffic, and notifying a system that the first segment is not suitable for voice traffic. Other embodiments are disclosed.

13. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium, comprising instructions, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

detecting signal interference in a first segment of a plurality of segments occurring in a radio frequency spectrum of a wireless communication system; determining according to the signal interference a measure of quality of service of the first segment for transmitting voice traffic; comparing the measure of quality of service to a desired measure of quality of service measure for voice traffic; determining from the comparison that the first segment is not suitable for voice traffic; determining whether non-voice traffic is available for redirection to the first segment; responsive to a first determination that the non-voice traffic is available for redirection to the first segment, assigning the non-voice traffic to the first segment while the first segment is affected by the signal interference; responsive to a second determination that the non-voice traffic is unavailable for redirection to the first segment, disabling use of the first segment while the first segment is affected by the signal interference; and responsive to a third determination that non-voice traffic is available for redirection to the first segment and a fourth determination that the first segment is not suitable for the non-voice traffic according to a desired quality of service measure for non-voice traffic, disabling use of the first segment while the first segment is affected by the signal interference. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17)

a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising; detecting signal interference in a first segment of a plurality of segments occurring in a radio frequency spectrum of a wireless communication system; determining according to the signal interference a measure of quality of service of the first segment for transmitting voice traffic; comparing the measure of quality of service to a desired measure of quality of service measure for voice traffic; determining from the comparison that the first segment is not suitable for voice traffic; determining whether non-voice traffic is available for redirection to the first segment; responsive to a first determination that the non-voice traffic is available for redirection to the first segment, assigning the non-voice traffic to the first segment while the first segment is affected by the signal interference; responsive to a second determination that the non-voice traffic is unavailable for redirection to the first segment, disabling use of the first segment while the first segment is affected by the signal interference; and responsive to a third determination that non-voice traffic is available for redirection to the first segment and a fourth determination that the first segment is not suitable for the non-voice traffic according to a desired quality of service measure for non-voice traffic, disabling use of the first segment while the first segment is affected by the signal interference. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20)
