Abstract

A light unit used in train tunnels is readily mountable and removable from a mounting bracket. The mounting bracket allows the battery backup system and light engine to be gravity mounted in manner that allows for quick and easy mounting and removal while also resisting vibrations and wind. A quick disconnect fitting can be used with the power cord to allow the units to be removed and replaced as needed. The light unit integrates the light engine with a battery backup system so that the entire light and battery unit is removed and replaced when necessary.

Claims

1. An LED light fixture that is removably mountable to a mounting bracket for providing pathway light for a train tunnel;

the mounting bracket mounting the LED light fixture to a vertical wall to provide downwardly-directed light for the train tunnel;

the LED light fixture comprising;

an LED light engine;

a battery backup system that includes a backup battery;

an LED power supply being powered at a high voltage and outputing a low voltage direct current for powering the LED light engine;

a quick connect power connector that allows the light fixture to be readily replaced; and

a housing that carries the LED light engine, the LED power supply, and the battery backup system;

the housing having a bottom and carrying the LED light engine within the housing in a position to shine light down from the bottom of the housing when the LED light fixture is mounted to the mounting bracket on a vertical wall to provide track bed lighting.

2. The light fixture of claim 1, wherein the combined housing, LED light engine, and battery backup system all fit within a perimeter having a height of 11.5 inches and a width of 4.5 inches.

3. The light fixture of claim 2, wherein the perimeter has a length of 12 inches.

4. The light fixture of claim 1, wherein the housing is fabricated from aluminum and is adapted to be supported by a stainless steel mounting bracket;

a spacer disposed next to the housing to prevent direct contact between the aluminum housing and the stainless steel mounting bracket.

5. The light fixture of claim 1, wherein the battery backup system includes a self-test system.

6. The light fixture of claim 1, wherein the housing includes selectively positionable shades that allow light projecting from the ends of the housing to be selectively blocked.

7. The light fixture of claim 1, wherein the housing includes a handle.

8. The light fixture of claim 7, wherein the handle is movable between extended and storage positions;

the storage position of the handle locates the handle entirely within a perimeter of 11.5 inches by 4.5 inches by 12 inches.

9. The light fixture of claim 8, wherein the extended position of the handle provides an opening adapted to allow for the insertion of the hand or fingers of the person carrying the light.

10. An LED light fixture that is removably mountable to a mounting bracket for providing pathway light for a train tunnel;

the mounting bracket having a hook and a shelf disposed below the hook when the bracket is mounted to a vertical wall;

the light fixture comprising;

an LED light engine;

a housing that carries the LED light engine;

the housing having a hook adapted to be disposed over the hook of the mounting bracket to support the housing from the bracket; and

the housing having a ledge adapted to rest on the shelf of the mounting bracket when the housing is connected to the mounting bracket.

11. The light fixture of claim 10, further comprising a spacer that prevents direct contact between the housing and the mounting bracket.

12. The light fixture of claim 11, wherein a portion of the spacer entirely lines the hook of the housing and a portion of the spacer is disposed along the ledge of the housing.

13. The light fixture of claim 10, further comprising tabs that extend from opposite end of the housing;

each of the tabs adapted to receive a connector that extends between the tab and the mounting bracket.

14. The light fixture of claim 10, wherein the housing includes selectively positionable shades that allow light projecting from the ends of the housing to be selectively blocked.

15. The light fixture of claim 10, further comprising a battery backup system disposed within the housing.

16. The light fixture of claim 10, further comprising a quick connect power connector that allows the light fixture to be readily replaced.

17. The light fixture of claim 10, wherein the housing includes a handle.

18. The light fixture of claim 17, wherein the handle is movable between extended and storage positions.

19. The light fixture of claim 18, wherein the extended position of the handle provides an opening adapted to allow for the insertion of the hand or fingers of the person carrying the light.

20. An LED light fixture that is removably mountable to a mounting bracket for providing pathway light for a train tunnel;

the mounting bracket mounting the LED light fixture to a vertical wall to provide downwardly-directed light for the track bed of a train tunnel;

the light fixture comprising;

an LED light engine;

a battery backup system that includes a backup battery;

a housing carrying the LED light engine and the battery backup system;

the combined housing, LED light engine, and battery backup system all fitting within a perimeter of 11.5 inches high by 4.5 inches deep; and

the LED light engine being disposed within the housing and adapted to shine light downward from the housing when the housing is carried by the mounting bracket on a vertical wall.

21. The light fixture of claim 20, wherein the mounting bracket has a hook and a shelf disposed below the hook when the bracket is mounting the LED light fixture to a vertical wall;

the housing having a hook adapted to be disposed over the hook of the mounting bracket to support the housing from the bracket; and

the housing having a ledge adapted to rest on the shelf of the mounting bracket when the housing is connected to the mounting bracket.

22. The light fixture of claim 21, further comprising a quick connect power connector that allows the light fixture to be readily replaced.

23. The light fixture of claim 22, further comprising tabs that extend from opposite end of the housing;

each of the tabs adapted to receive a connector that extends between the tab and the mounting bracket.

24. The light fixture of claim 23, further comprising a spacer that prevents direct contact between the housing and the bracket.

25. The light fixture of claim 20, wherein the housing includes selectively positionable shades that allow light projecting from the ends of the housing to be selectively blocked.

26. The light fixture of claim 20, further comprising a wireless communication circuit that transmits battery self test data.

27. An LED light fixture that is removably mountable to a mounting bracket for providing pathway light for a train tunnel;

the mounting bracket having a hook and a shelf disposed below the hook when the bracket is mounted to a vertical wall;

the light fixture comprising;

an LED light engine;

a battery backup system that includes a backup battery;

a housing that carries the LED light engine and the battery backup system;

the combined housing, LED light engine, and battery backup system all fitting within a perimeter of 11.5 inches by 4.5 inches by 12 inches;

a quick connect power connector that allows the light fixture to be readily replaced;

the housing including selectively positionable shades that allow light projecting from the ends of the housing to be selectively blocked;

a handle connected to the housing;

the handle being movable between extended and storage positions;

the storage position of the handle locating the handle entirely within the perimeter of 11.5 inches by 4.5 inches by 12 inches;

the housing having a hook adapted to be disposed over the hook of the mounting bracket to support the housing from the mounting bracket;

the housing having a ledge adapted to rest on the shelf of the mounting bracket when the housing is connected to the mounting bracket; and

a spacer disposed between the housing and the mounting bracket to prevent direct contact between the housing and the mounting bracket.

28. The light fixture of claim 27, further comprising tabs that extend from opposite end of the housing;

each of the tabs adapted to receive a connector that extends between the tab and the mounting bracket.

29. The light fixture of claim 27, further comprising an LED power supply adapted to be powered at a high voltage and outputting a low voltage direct current for powering the LED light engine;

the LED power supply being carried within the housing.
