Power tool having switch and rotary input control
First Claim
1. A switch coupled to a housing of a power tool with a motor and a power tool control circuit, the switch comprising:
- an elongated outer casing having at least a portion exterior of the housing for movement relative to the housing, the elongated casing having a top portion, a bottom portion, and a middle portion;
a first electrical switch for activating the power tool control circuit, the first electrical switch disposed in the housing behind the top portion of the casing; and
a second electrical switch for activating the power tool control circuit, the second electrical switch disposed in the housing behind the bottom portion of the casing,wherein the first and second electrical switches are connected in parallel to the control circuit so that activation of one or both of the first electrical switches causes activation of the power tool control circuit,wherein the outer casing is configured to activate one or both of the first and second electrical switches when the outer casing is depressed on the top portion, the bottom portion, or the middle portion, andwherein the outer casing is configured to move pivotally when the bottom portion is depressed to activate the second electrical switch or when the top portion is depressed to activate the first electrical switch.

Abstract
A power tool includes a housing, an electric motor, an end effector coupled to the motor, a control circuit configured to control electrical power delivery to the motor, and a switch for selectively providing electrical power to the control circuit. The switch includes an elongated outer casing having at least a portion exterior of the housing. The casing is linearly moveable in a first linear direction generally transverse to a longitudinal axis of the housing. A linkage is disposed inside of the housing and coupled to the casing such that linear movement of the casing in the first direction causes linear movement of the linkage in a second direction generally transverse to the first direction. An electrical switch is disposed inside the housing and coupled to the linkage such that linear movement of the linkage in the second direction causes activation of the electrical switch.
