Abstract

A spectacle lens is disclosed. The disclosed lens provides a vision correcting area for the correction of a wearer'"'"'s refractive error. The viewing correction area provides correction for non-conventional refractive error to provide at least a part of the wearer'"'"'s vision correction. The lens has a prescription based on a wave front analysis of the wearer'"'"'s eye and the lens can further be modified to fit within an eyeglass frame.

Claims

1. An optical lens system comprising:

a lens having a fixed focal length; and

an electro-active region coupled to the lens, the electro-active region having a first electro-active layer and a second electro-active layer;

wherein;

the electro-active region is adapted to, when activated in a first manner, alter a first focal length of the optical lens system to a second focal length, the second focal length different from the first focal length; and

the electro-active region is adapted to, when activated in a second manner, provide a first tint to the lens.

2. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

the first tint is electro-chromatic.

3. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

a surface of the lens is formed from a photo-chromatic material.

4. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

a front surface of the lens is formed from a photo-chromatic material.

5. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

an intermediate surface of the lens is formed from a photo-chromatic material.

6. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

a back surface of the lens is formed from a photo-chromatic material.

7. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

a surface of the lens is formed from a photo-chromatic material that is adapted to provide a second tint to the lens.

8. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

a surface of the lens is formed from a photo-chromatic material that is adapted to provide a complimentary second tint to the lens.

9. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

a surface of the lens is formed from a photo-chromatic material that is adapted to provide an additive second tint to the lens.

10. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

a surface of the lens is formed from a photo-chromatic material that is adapted to provide a complimentary additive second tint to the lens.

11. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

said optical lens system is adapted to be mounted in a pair of sunglasses.

12. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

said optical lens system is mounted in a pair of sunglasses.

13. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

said optical lens system is coated with an anti-reflective coating.

14. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

the electro-active region provides the first tint to the lens by alternating a light transmission through the lens.

15. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

the electro-active region provides the first tint to the lens via application of a predetermined voltage to a gel polymer of the electro-active region.

16. The optical lens system of claim 1, wherein:

the electro-active region provides the first tint to the lens via application of a predetermined voltage to a liquid crystal layer of the electro-active region.
