Abstract

A power tool system includes a tool body with a motor having an output member that drives an accessory. The output member defines an output member axis. An end effector is coupled for rotation with the output member relative to the tool body. The end effector is configured to retain the accessory. A light source is disposed on the end effector. A consumable tool, such as a holesaw, is removably attachable to the end effector, and has an illumination opening configured to be substantially aligned with the light source. The holesaw may have a generally cylindrical side wall and a base wall that defines a central opening for receiving an arbor, an aperture spaced radially outward by a first distance for receiving a projection on an arbor and an illumination opening spaced radially a second greater distance.

Claims

1. A power tool system comprising:

a tool body including a motor having an output member that drives an accessory, the output member defining an output member axis;

an end effector coupled for rotation with the output member relative to the tool body, the end effector configured to retain the accessory;

a light source disposed on the end effector; and

a consumable tool removably attachable to the end effector, the consumable tool having an illumination opening disposed at a radial distance from the output member axis and configured to be substantially aligned with the light source.

2. The power tool system of claim 1, wherein a lens is disposed within the illumination opening of the consumable tool.

3. The power tool system of claim 1, wherein the consumable tool comprises a hole saw.

4. The power tool system of claim 1 wherein the light source comprises at least one light emitting diode (LED).

5. The power tool system of claim 1 wherein the end effector comprises a chuck.

6. The power tool system of claim 1, further comprising:

a primary coil assembly configured on the tool, the primary coil assembly including a primary coil that is electrically connected to a power source of the power tool;

a secondary coil assembly configured on the end effector and mounted concentric to the output member axis, the secondary coil assembly including a secondary coil that is electrically connected to the light source; and

wherein current flowing through the primary coil creates a magnetic field that causes current to flow through the secondary coil and power the light source.

7. The power tool system of claim 6 wherein the primary coil assembly comprises:

a primary coil bobbin, wherein the primary coil is wound around the primary coil bobbin; and

a primary coil housing that receives the primary coil bobbin.

8. The power tool system of claim 6 wherein the light source is formed as part of a light ring assembly comprising:

a printed circuit board; and

a plurality of LEDs arranged on the printed circuit board, wherein the printed circuit board electrically connects the secondary coil assembly to each of the plurality of LEDs.

9. The power tool system of claim 8, further comprising:

a protective cover mounted around the light ring assembly configured to protect the plurality of LEDs.

10. The power tool system of claim 6 wherein the end effector comprises a clamp washer assembly and wherein the clamp washer assembly comprises:

an inner clamp washer; and

an outer clamp washer;

wherein the primary coil assembly is incorporated on the tool body and the secondary coil assembly is disposed on one of the inner or outer clamp washer.

The power tool system of claim 10 wherein the inner clamp washer includes one of electrical tracks or electrical conductors and the outer clamp washer includes the other of the electrical tracks or electrical conductors, wherein the conductors and tracks electrically connect upon assembly of the inner and outer clamp washers.

The power tool system of claim 8, further comprising a modulation circuit electrically connected with the secondary coil assembly and the LEDs, the modulation circuit configured to flash at least one of the LEDs and control the intensity of the LEDs over time and wherein the modulation circuit is configured to flash the LEDs at a rate to create a stroboscopic effect on the driven accessory.

13. The power tool system of claim 8, further comprising a multiple-way rectifier having at least four diodes, and wherein at least one LED of the plurality of LEDs are electrically bridge connected to the multiple-way rectifier.

14. The power tool system of claim 1 further comprises a battery that provides direct current (DC) to the power tool, the power tool further comprising a DC to alternating current (AC) converter.

15. The power tool system of claim 1 wherein the power tool is connectable to an AC power source.

16. A holesaw for use with a power tool having an end effector with a light source mounted on the end effector, the holesaw comprising:

a generally circular base wall;

a generally cylindrical side wall extending forward from the base wall;

a central opening in the base wall configured to receive an arbor;

an aperture defined in the base wall, and spaced radially outward from the central opening by a first distance, the aperture configured to receive a projection on an arbor that can couple the holesaw with the end effector;

an illumination opening defined in the base wall, and spaced radially outward from the central opening by a second distance that is greater than the first distance, the illumination opening configured to transmit light from the light source to a workpiece.

17. The holesaw of claim 16, wherein the illumination opening includes a lens.

18. The holesaw of claim 16, wherein the illumination opening is circular.

19. The holesaw of claim 16, wherein the illumination opening is arc-shaped.

20. The holesaw of claim 16, wherein the illumination opening comprises a plurality of illumination openings.

21. The holesaw of claim 16, further comprising an arbor coupled to the base wall, the arbor having a shank portion extending rearward from the base wall, and a drill bit portion extending forward from the base wall.
