1. A variable control sound attenuator, comprising:
- a housing having a top housing and a bottom housing, the top housing being rotatable relative to and engaged with the bottom housing;
the top housing being hollow and cylindrical and containing a top housing passageway therein, said top housing passageway extending longitudinally through said top housing and being radially offset from the center of the top housing;
the bottom housing being hollow and cylindrical and containing a bottom housing passageway therein, said bottom housing passageway extending longitudinally through said bottom housing and being radially offset from the center of the bottom housing;
rotation of the top housing and bottom housing providing a variable alignment between the top housing passageway and the bottom housing passageway thereby providing a variable control of sound transmission through the sound attenuator, wherein rotation of the top housing and bottom housing to align the top housing passageway and the bottom housing passageway provides an open passageway permitting sound transmission therethrough, and further rotation of the top housing and bottom housing to not align the top housing passageway and the bottom housing passageway provides a closed passageway blocking sound transmission therethrough.

Abstract
A sound attenuator that allows a user to adjust the amount of attenuation in a variable, continuous fashion or in a discrete controlled fashion from zero attenuation to maximum attenuation without removing the device from the ear. The ear attenuator includes a housing having a passageway, the passageway allowing for sound to pass through the housing and a variable control, the variable control able to control the size of the passageway through the housing and the amount of attenuating material located within the passageway through the housing.

11. A variable control sound attenuator, comprising:
-
a housing having a first housing and a second housing, the second housing being rotatable within and engaged with the first housing; the first housing being hollow and cylindrical; the second housing being hollow and cylindrical and containing a housing passageway therein, said passageway extending longitudinally through said second housing and being radially offset from the center of the housing, said second housing having a variable control to control position of the second housing within the first housing; an earpiece extending from the first housing which is radially offset from the center of the housing, the earpiece having an opening therethrough; rotation of the second housing within the first housing providing a variable alignment between the housing passageway and the earpiece opening, thereby providing a variable control of sound transmission through the sound attenuator, wherein rotation of the second housing to align the housing passageway and the opening permits sound transmission through the housing passageway and the opening, and further rotation of the second housing to not align the housing passageway and the opening blocks sound transmission through the housing passageway and the opening. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15)
