- exposing the aquatic organisms under cultivation to illumination from light emitting diodes from a plurality of individual submerged illumination sources inside water of a rearing unit, the illumination being formed by the plurality of submerged illumination sources that are arranged in an array, the array spread out throughout the rearing unit; and
maintaining the illumination in the rearing unit with for a rearing period to cause increased growth of the aquatic organisms for enhanced harvesting.

a rearing unit configured to enclose water and the aquatic organisms under cultivation; a plurality of illumination sources having a light emission surface arranged below an upper surface of the water in the rearing unit providing illumination from light emitting diodes, the illumination formed by the plurality of submerged illumination sources that are arranged in an array, the array spread out throughout the rearing unit; and a control device configured to operate the plurality of illumination sources to maintain illumination inside the rearing unit under the upper surface of the water for a rearing period to cause increased growth of the aquatic organisms for enhanced harvesting. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18, 19, 20)
