1. A method comprising:

  • delivering, with a first set of electrodes of a cochlear implant, an electrical signal to a cochlea of a recipient of the cochlear implant, wherein the cochlear implant comprises a plurality of electrodes, and wherein at least a portion of the plurality of electrodes are positioned within the cochlea of the recipient to stimulate an auditory nerve of the recipient;

    measuring, with a second set of electrodes of the cochlear implant, a response to the electrical signal; and

    based on the measured response, determining that the electrical signal directly and electrically stimulated a facial nerve of the recipient.
