1. An apparatus comprising:
- a transceiver for wireless communications with user equipments (UEs) using a compression protocol for voice data; and
a first controller coupled with the transceiver and an Internet Protocol (IP) gateway;
the first controller including a first U-plane server configured to control a flow of the voice data and a first C-plane server configured to control signaling;
wherein the first controller provides U-plane packets of the voice data and C-plane packets of the signaling to bypass a core network; and
wherein the first controller is configured to use a stacked, layered protocol having an IP transport layer.

Abstract
Methods and apparatus for communicating with the Internet via a gateway are disclosed. The gateway may be a Radio Access Network (RAN) gateway. The gateway may communicate data with at least one user equipment (UE). The gateway may route the data via one or more interfaces. The data may be routed by bypassing a core network.
