1. A device for delivering a medicament into a body of a patient by injection into or through a skin surface of said patient, comprising:

  • a housing having a bottom surface adapted to contact a skin surface of a patient;

    a needle adapted for penetration of said skin surface and for movement through an aperture;

    a reservoir, disposed within said housing, for containing said medicament;

    a needle holder for holding said needle;

    an activation button slidably disposed with said device;

    a safety member; and

    at least one shield configured to be held in place by said safety member, said shield comprising a ramp configured to directly contact and raise said needle holder to retract said needle into said device;

    wherein said shield is urged to move relative to said bottom surface from a position exposing said needle into a position to at least partially cover said needle or said aperture.
