Truck body
First Claim
1. A gate-free mining truck body having a front wall and two laterally spaced side walls and a floor that form a payload carrying volume, the body comprising at least one pivot point at which the body is pivotally mountable to a truck chassis, the body configured to connect to at least one lift cylinder mounted to the chassis and to the body, the lift cylinder being configured to pivot the body about the at least one pivot point and thereby dispense a payload, the floor comprising:
- at least one forward section coupled at a forward end to the front wall and between the side walls, the at least one forward section forming a first predetermined angle to the horizontal as measured with respect to the horizontal when the body is in a payload transporting attitude; and
a rearward tail panel between the side walls, the tail panel coupled to the at least one forward section, the tail panel forming a second predetermined angle to the horizontal as measured with respect to the horizontal when the body is in a payload transporting attitude, the second predetermined angle being less than the first predetermined angle, the tail panel thereby forming a spillway, the forward section terminating forward of the at least one pivot point and the first predetermined angle and second predetermined angle being configured so that during dumping of the payload, the center of gravity of the payload remains forward of the pivot point until a sufficient quantity of the payload has been dispensed that the mass of the undispensed payload will not cause a potentially unsafe distribution of weight to the truck chassis or the lift cylinder.

Abstract
A truck body includes a front wall, side walls, and a floor. The floor has panels disposed at predetermined angles from the horizontal that, with the other parts of the body, form a payload volume within the body. The floor also includes a tail panel disposed at a lesser angle from the horizontal to facilitate the shedding of the payload when dumping, and further to maintain the center of mass of the payload in a generally forward position during dumping.

3. A gate-free mining truck body having a front wall and two laterally spaced side walls and a floor that form a payload carrying volume, the body comprising at least one pivot point at which the body is pivotally mountable to a truck chassis, the body configured to connect to at least one lift cylinder mounted to the chassis and to the body, the lift cylinder being configured to pivot the body about the pivot point and thereby dispense a payload, the floor comprising:
-
at least one forward section coupled at a forward end to the front wall and between the side walls, at least a portion of the forward section forming a first predetermined angle to the horizontal as measured with respect to the horizontal when the body is in a payload transporting attitude; and a rearward tail panel between the side walls, the tail panel coupled to the at least one forward section, the tail panel forming a second predetermined angle to the horizontal as measured with respect to the horizontal when the body is in a payload transporting attitude, the tail panel thereby forming a spillway for the payload, the combination of the first predetermined angle of the at least one forward section and the second predetermined angle of the tail panel creating a horizontal body length that rapidly shortens as the body is tilted upwards to dump the payload, thereby causing the center of gravity of the payload to remain forward of the pivot point because the payload held behind the at least one pivot point quickly sheds from the payload carrying volume until a sufficient quantity of the payload has been dispensed that the mass of the undispensed payload will not create a potentially unsafe distribution of weight with regard to the truck chassis or the lift cylinder. - View Dependent Claims (4, 5, 6, 7)
