1. A method comprising:

  • receiving, by a network device, a request from a user device for an IP address;

    assigning, by the network device, the IP address to the user device;

    assigning, by the network device, an amount of time that the IP address may be used by the user device,the amount of time being finite;

    sending, by the network device, the IP address to the user device;

    determining, by the network device, that the amount of time has expired;

    determining, by the network device, that the user device is idle for a particular period of time after determining that the amount of time has expired;

    assigning, by the network device, a new IP address to the user device, after determining that the user device is idle for the particular period of time; and

    sending, by the network device, the new IP address to the user device.
