1. An implantable medical device for electrically stimulating an autonomic nerve, comprising;

  • an electrode pair adapted for positioning along the autonomic nerve;

    a therapy delivery module coupled to the electrode pair, the therapy delivery module comprisingan electrical stimulation pulse generator for delivering stimulation pulses at a first frequency to the autonomic nerve via the electrode pair;

    a high frequency signal source for delivering a high frequency electrical signal at a second frequency higher than the first frequency to the autonomic nerve via the electrode pair; and

    a control module configured to control the therapy delivery module to deliver the first frequency stimulation pulses to excite a target tissue innervated by the autonomic nerve and deliver the high frequency signal during the first frequency stimulation pulse delivery; and

    wherein the pulse generator and the high frequency signal source are coupled to the electrode pair.
