1. A testing device comprising:
- an entry port configured to receive a test sample into a first end of a holding chamber;
a latch configured to close the entry port;
a restriction located within a second end of the holding chamber and configured to prevent displacement of the test sample from the holding chamber;
a distribution port shaped as a slot having an end connected to the restriction and an opposing end, wherein the end connected to the restriction is configured to receive the test sample from the holding chamber;
a capillary distribution channel connected to a side of said slot between the end connected to the restriction and the opposing end and comprising at least one lateral flow test strip; and
a displacement device connected to the holding chamber between the first end and the second end, and configured to move a portion of said test sample through the restriction and directly from said distribution port onto the at least one lateral flow strip within said capillary distribution channel,wherein the displacement device is an air bladder.

Abstract
This invention relates generally to devices and methods for performing optical and electrochemical assays and, more particularly, to test devices, e.g., cartridges, methods and systems, wherein the test devices have an entry port configured to receive a test sample into a holding chamber; a first conduit having at least one lateral flow test strip; and a displacement device, such as a pneumatic pump, configured to move a portion of said test sample from said holding chamber into said first conduit. The present invention is particularly useful for performing immunoassays and/or electrochemical assays at the point-of-care.

9. A testing system comprising:

a testing device comprising; an entry port configured to receive a test sample into a first end of a holding chamber; a latch configured to close the entry port; a restriction located at a second end of the holding chamber opposite that of the first end with the entry port and configured to prevent displacement of the test sample from the holding chamber; a distribution port shaped as a slot having an end connected to the restriction and an opposing end, wherein the end connected to the restriction is configured to receive the test sample from the holding chamber; a capillary distribution channel connected to a side of said slot between the end connected to the restriction and the opposing end and comprising at least one lateral flow test strip; and displacement device connected to the holding chamber between the first end and the second end, and configured to generate pressure to overcome a resistance of the restriction and move a portion of said test sample through the restriction and directly from said distribution port onto the at least one lateral flow strip within said capillary distribution channel; and an instrument comprising a receiving port configured to receive and engage said testing device, wherein the displacement device is an air bladder. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
