1. An apparatus, comprising:
- an electronic device including a processor, a memory, and a camera, wherein the electronic device is to perform a biometric authentication to determine whether a person is authorized to use the electronic device, the biometric authentication to;
issue, via an output device of the electronic device, a first prompt to the person to perform a first physical body behavior;
obtain a first picture of the first physical body behavior with the camera; and
analyze the first picture to verify that the first picture shows the first physical body behavior, wherein the electronic device is further to perform a liveness verification to;
issue, via the output device of the electronic device, a second prompt to the person to perform a second physical body behavior different than the first physical body behavior, the second physical body behavior comprising a particular expression;
obtain a second picture of the second physical body behavior; and
analyze the second picture to verify, before the person is granted access to at least one feature of the electronic device, that the physical body behavior shown in the second picture is the second physical body behavior and that the second physical body behavior is from a living person corresponding to the person and not a recorded artifact.

Abstract
Various embodiments of the invention may be used to verify that a person being authorized by biometric techniques to use a device is a living person and not some form of recording intended to spoof the system. Some embodiments may try to cause a change in a measured biometric feature, and compare images taken before and after the change to verify the change occurred. In some embodiments, multiple stages of verification may be used, either to increase the difficulty of spoofing the security system, or to provide different levels of security for different levels of access to the device'"'"'s functionality.

5. A method comprising:
-
performing operations by an electronic device to perform a biometric authentication to determine whether a person is authorized to use the electronic device, the operations comprising; prompting the person to perform a first physical body behavior; obtaining a first picture of the first physical body behavior with a camera; and analyzing the first picture to verify that the first picture shows the first physical body behavior, wherein the operations further comprise a liveness verification comprising; prompting the person to perform a second physical body behavior different than the first physical body behavior and comprising a particular expression; obtaining a second picture of the second physical body behavior; and analyzing the second picture to verify, before granting the person access to at least one feature of the electronic device, that the physical body behavior shown in the second picture is the second physical body behavior and that the second physical body behavior is coming from a living person corresponding to the person and not a recorded artifact. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8)

9. A non-transitory computer-readable medium that contains instructions, which when executed by one or more processors result in performing operations comprising:
-
performing a biometric authentication to determine whether a person is authorized to use an electronic device comprising; prompting, via an output device of the electronic device, the person to perform a first physical body behavior; obtaining a first picture of the first physical body behavior with a camera; and analyzing the first picture to verify the first picture shows the first physical body behavior; and granting the person access to one or more predetermined features of the electronic device if the person also passes a second authorization procedure comprising a liveness verification comprising; prompting, via the output device of the electronic device, the person to perform a second physical body behavior different than the first physical body behavior; obtaining a second picture of the second physical body behavior; and analyzing the second picture to verify, before granting the person said access, that the physical body behavior shown in the second picture is the second physical body behavior and that the second physical body behavior is coming from a living person corresponding to the person and not a recorded artifact. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11)
