1. A system for tracking a patient'"'"'s adherence to a medication schedule, the system comprising:

  • a replaceable tray comprising a plurality of first wells, each of the first plurality of wells interconnected to each other and containing medication for a set period of time of a medication schedule for a patient;

    a pillbox comprisinga body portion comprising a plurality of sensors, anda grid comprising a plurality of second wells, the grid positioned within the body portion above the plurality of sensors; and

    a processor;

    wherein each of the plurality of first wells is positioned within a corresponding well of the plurality of second wells;

    generating an electric field in each well of the plurality of first wells partially based on the presence of medication in each well of the plurality of first wells, wherein each well of the plurality of first wells comprises a forward wall with an upward concave curved cross-section with respect to an interior of the well that rises from a bottom wall toward the front of each well in the direction of mediation removal, wherein each well of the plurality of first wells further comprises a rear wall extending upward with respect to a bottom wall, the upward concave curved cross-section configured to position the medication for sensing by a sensor of the plurality of sensors;

    wherein the processor is configured to determine adherence to the medication schedule for the patient based on a plurality of signals from the plurality of sensors and data for the medication schedule for the patient, wherein an absence of medication in a well of the first plurality of wells results in a changed value of a sensed physical quantity detected by a sensor of the plurality of sensors resulting in the absence of medication reported by the sensor.
