1. A method of restoring a polymeric membrane in an electrochemical sensor system following repeated exposures to patient samples, comprising:

  • (i) providing said electrochemical sensor system comprising,(a) an electrochemical sensor card comprising at least one electrochemical sensor, said at least one electrochemical sensor comprising at least an electrode and a composite membrane deposited on said electrode, said composite membrane comprising an outer layer, an inner polymeric membrane layer adapted to function as an inner interference rejection membrane which protects the electrochemical sensor from fouling or interference from compounds in a sample, and an enzyme layer,(b) an electrochemical sensor apparatus in electrical contact with the electrochemical sensor card, said electrochemical sensor apparatus being configured to measure electrical signals from the electrochemical sensor card and to provide an electrical potential to the electrochemical sensor, and(c) a reservoir containing an electropolymerizable monomer in a solution in fluid communication with the electrochemical sensor card;

    (ii) contacting the electropolymerizable monomer solution from said reservoir with the composite membrane in the electrochemical sensor via a flow channel; and

    ,(iii) applying said electrical potential of sufficient strength and duration from said electrochemical sensor apparatus to cause at least a portion of the electropolymerizable monomer solution to polymerize onto the inner polymeric membrane.
