1. An ad hoc service provider for a wireless network, comprising:

  • a processing system configured to support a tunnel between a server and one or more mobile clients in the wireless network to provide the one or more mobile clients with access to a remote network, the processing system being configured to detect a resource related event resulting from a change in resource capability within the ad hoc service provider by determining that an available power of the ad hoc service provider has fallen below a predetermined threshold, the processing system being further configured to alter the ad hoc service provider'"'"'s ability to provide service for the wireless network in response to detecting at the ad hoc service provider the resource related event by handing off at least one of the mobile clients to one or more other ad hoc service providers, wherein handing off the at least one of the mobile clients comprises notifying the server that the ad hoc service provider must hand off the at least one of the mobile clients.
