Abstract
A transportable rig apparatus provides for well completion operations while also providing a rig apparatus that readily resists or negates the effects of dynamic wind forces or other weather phenomenon. More particularly, the transportable rig apparatus provides a mast assembly that can extend in a generally vertical direction, e.g. perpendicular to the rig carrier and/or ground surface, such that the rig can be placed directly adjacent to a wellbore, the mast assembly providing a mast apparatus that readily resists or negates the effects of strong winds or other weather phenomenon.

8. A method for maintaining a low wind resistance mobile rig in association with a well, the method comprising the steps of:
-
positioning a mast assembly vertically above the well and connected to a mobile rig carrier, wherein a lower surface of the mast assembly contacts an upper surface of the well, such that the mast is operable at ground level relative to the well, wherein the mast assembly has a width measured perpendicularly from the longitudinal axis of the mobile rig, wherein the mast assembly comprises a lattice framework providing a surface over which a dynamic wind force can travel and thereby reduce the dynamic wind force directly affecting the low wind resistance mobile rig; and positioning a pipe handling system proximate to the mast assembly for moving pipe into and from engagement with a drive system disposed on the mast assembly, wherein the pipe handling system is directly connected to the mast assembly and positioned on an opposite side of the well with respect to the mobile rig carrier, and wherein a lower surface of the pipe handling system contacts the upper surface of the well, such that the pipe handling system is operable at ground level relative to the well; deploying a pair of base beams for providing stability thereto, wherein the pair of base beams extend from the mast assembly, mobile rig carrier, or combinations thereof, wherein each base beam comprises one or more flat mats, and wherein the pair of base beams comprise two or more flat mats having a combined width at least as wide as the mast assembly wherein the combined width of the mats is measured perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the mobile rig and wherein the flat mats of the pair of base beams are hydraulically deployed, and wherein the one or more flat mats rest substantially flat on a surface adjacent to the wellbore when deployed. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15)
