Abstract

A lighting system includes at least one lighting apparatus having a light emitting element capable of emitting a controllably variable light output in a region. A position determination subsystem is capable of determining a position in three dimensions of at least one mobile entity within the region. A control subsystem is capable of variably controlling a light output of the at least one lighting apparatus according to the position of the mobile entity. The system may determine position by radio ranging with mobile electronic elements. The system may include multiple lighting elements and may determine light levels according to positions of multiple mobile entities. The system may include a database of information about lighting elements, mobile entities, and lighting plans that may be selected from mobile electronic elements.

Claims

1. A lighting fixture comprising:

(A) at least two series chains of light emitting diodes,

(B) at least one controller circuit that produces an output power to the light emitting diodes that varies according to (i) a lighting plan and (ii) a environment thermally sensing trace or thermal sensing capability;

(C) a ranging circuit that determines a range to a mobile entity;

(D) an access point to a network;

(F) at least one electrical connector that allows interconnection of thermally sensing circuit from a second lighting fixture;

(G) a mounting bracket selected form the set of (i) a corner bracket, (ii) a hanging bracket, (iii) and a ceiling mounted bracket;

(H) a rotating access block; and

(I) a tilting reflector;

(J) track for optional mounting of light diffuser.

2. A system as in claim 1 wherein:

(A) a plurality of lighting apparatus, each having a controller system capable of (i) bidirectional power line communication, (ii) bidirectional wireless networks communications and (iii) connected to one or more power distribution centers; and

(B) a controller subsystem is capable of selecting the power distribution center to power the lighting fixture.

3. A system of claim 2 having power distribution center capable of (i) USB interface, (ii) connecting to a computer with internet access capable gathering information such as local time, daylight savings weather information online determines the selection of a lighting plan from its database.

4. A system of claim 2 having power distribution center capable of gathering information through powerline network from the Utility grid determines the selection of a lighting plan from its database.

5. A system of claim 2 wherein:

a control subsystem that measured power consumption of each lighting apparatus reports its power consumption information through the bidirectional power line communication network and/or internet.

6. A system of claims 2 wherein:

a plurality of lighting apparatus with capability to communicate bidirectional across different networks, interface and communicate with the utility grid, internet for optimizing and select different lighting plans in response to information gathered.

7. A system as in claim 1 wherein:

(A) a control subsystem capable of communicating information on occupant over to an access point over the wireless or the powerline network from remote photo sensors, light sensors in cellphones, wall photo sensors or other portable smart devices with brightness calibration determines the brightness information,

(B) a control subsystem capable of rejecting Infrared spectrum information for the light sensors and determine calibrated brightness in the human visual spectrum;

(C) The control subsystem capable of collecting ambient lighting from its wired photo sensors network.

8. The system of claim 1 wherein:

a light diffuser subsystem that can be inserted within the tracks capable of generating diffusing patterns associated to each LED location using Fresnel hologram patterns to diffuse LED light spots or generate overall optical interference patterns for customized illumination patterns.

9. The system of claim 1 wherein:

a thermal sensing subsystem for controlling the temperature of distributed non sequential LEDs over different chains and across cascading fixture modules using a thermal regulatory circuit composed of thermal sensing elements (NTC or PTC) and another series of resistors connected in series across cascading modules and forming a proportionate voltage divider with a shunt connector at the last cascading fixture. The voltage divider point is accessed at the first module via a separate serial conductive path connected in series across all the cascaded fixture modules connected at the shunt connector. The thermal sensing (NTC or PTC) element is located at the proximity of LED mounted on thermally conductive printed circuit board of a fixture module.

10. The system of claim 1 wherein:

a thermal sensing subsystem for controlling the temperature using thermal sensitive traces as NTC or PTC element is located at the proximity of LED mounted on thermally conductive printed circuit board of a fixture module.

11. The system of claim 10 wherein:

the thermal sensing voltage divider provides the operating temperature of the LEDs to allow the controller circuit to select the lighting plan for the operating environment.

12. The system of claim 1 wherein:

a rotating subsystem for controlling the angle of tilt by a rotate block for the LED chains with reflectors with an interlink connector block pair across cascading fixture modules.

13. The system of claim 1 wherein:

the control subsystem capable of providing synchronized external reference clock to its real-time clock for determining a synchronized lighting plan.

14. The system of claim 1 wherein:

a control subsystem of a first lighting apparatus communicates with a control subsystem of a second lighting apparatus and controls a variably distinct light output in the region of the first apparatus according to the position of a mobile entity within the region of the second apparatus.

15. The system of claim 1 wherein:

an interlock and electrical interconnect and brackets allow plurality of fixtures connected as modules to provide an overall lighting fixture of various lengths.
