Abstract

Provided herein is a technique by which a user may interact with an apparatus configured to provide for display of an image, such as with augmented reality glasses. An example embodiment may provide a method including receiving an indication of a first motion event initiated on a first side of a device from a motion sensor, determining a first motion event pattern based on one or more directional components of the first motion event, distinguishing the first motion event from a motion event initiated on a second side of the device, correlating a first operation with the first motion event pattern, and causing the first operation to be performed. The first operation may include causing the opacity of an image presented on a substantially transparent display to be increased.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

a near-eye display;

a processor configured to provide for presentation of images on the display;

an arm configured to extend over an ear of a user; and

a temple configured to join the display to the arm,

wherein the display is configured to operate in a transparent state, wherein the display does not obstruct the user'"'"'s view through the display, wherein the display is configured to provide for presentation of images that are at least partially opaque, and wherein opacity of an image presented is configured to be changed in response to a user input comprising a motion event initiated on the temple of the apparatus.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a motion sensor configured to detect the motion event initiated on the temple of the apparatus.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the near-eye display is a first near-eye display, the arm is a first arm, and the temple is a first temple, further comprising:

a second near-eye display;

a second arm configured to extend over a second ear of a user;

a second temple configured to join the second display to the second arm; and

a bridge configured to join the first near-eye display to the second near-eye display.

4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the first near-eye display is configured to present a first image while the second near-eye display presents a second image, different from the first image.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the apparatus is further configured to enable the first image to be presented on the second near-eye display while the second image is presented on the first near-eye display in response to a user input.

6. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the image presented on the first near-eye display is configured to be changed in response to a first user input received on the first temple.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the image presented on the second near-eye display is configured to be changed in response to a second user input received on the second temple.

8. A method of operating augmented reality glasses comprising a near-eye display and a temple proximate the side of the near-eye display, the method comprising:

providing for display of an image on the near-eye display;

receiving an input at the temple, wherein the input comprises a motion event; and

providing for display of a changed image on the near-eye display in response to receiving the input at the temple, wherein the opacity of the image is configured to be changed in response to the input.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein receiving an input at the temple comprises:

determining a motion event pattern based on one or more directional components of the motion event; and

correlating an operation with the motion event pattern.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein determining a motion event pattern based on one or more directional components of the motion event comprises:

determining a direction of the motion event; and

determining a magnitude of force of the motion event.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein providing for display of an image on the near-eye display comprises:

providing for an image overlay of an environment viewed through the near-eye display; and

altering the image overlay in response to the environment viewed through the near-eye display changing.

12. An apparatus comprising:

a first near-eye display;

a second near-eye display;

a first temple disposed proximate the first near-eye display;

a second temple disposed proximate the second near-eye display;

a motion sensor; and

a processor configured to provide for display of a first image on the first near-eye display and a second image on the second near-eye display and to receive input from the motion sensor,

wherein a motion input received at the first temple is detected by the motion sensor, and wherein the processor is caused to change the opacity of the image provided for display on the first near-eye display or the second near-eye display in response to the input.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the first near-eye display and the second near-eye display are transparent, and wherein an image provided for display on the first near-eye display or the second near-eye display is at least partially opaque.

14. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the first image on the first display comprises an image overlay of an environment viewed through the first near-eye display.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the processor is configured to change first image in response to the environment viewed through the first near-eye display changing.
