1. A control system for an X-ray scanner, the system comprising:

  • an input arranged to receive an input signal identifying which of a plurality of electron emitters is to be active and to produce a plurality of outputs, wherein each of the plurality of outputs is arranged to control an operation of one of the plurality of electron emitters, wherein each of the plurality of outputs is configured to be in a first state arranged to activate said one of the plurality of electron emitters, a second state arranged to de-activate said one of the plurality of electron emitters, or a third state arranged to put said one of the plurality of electron emitters into a floating state;

    an output stage associated with each of the plurality of electron emitters, wherein each output stage is arranged to generate a high voltage output, wherein each output stage is arranged to connect said one of the plurality of electron emitters to a first voltage supply connection when the output signal is in the first state, to connect said one of the plurality of electron emitters to a second voltage connection when the output signal is in the second state, and to disconnect said one of the plurality of electron emitters from the first voltage supply connection and second voltage connection when the output signal is in the third state; and

    a first register arranged to contain data indicating which of the plurality of outputs should be in the first state and which of the plurality of outputs should be in the second state and a second register arranged to contain data indicating which of the plurality of outputs should be in the third state, wherein the data from the second register is arranged to override that from the first register.
