1. A surgical fastening assembly comprising:

  • a fastener receiving frame having a first annular portion and a second annular portion, the first annular portion defining a plurality of openings and the second annular portion defining a plurality of perforations, and a locking structure supported within each of the plurality of openings;

    a fastener supporting member including a plurality of surgical fasteners, each of the surgical fasteners including at least one projecting surface which is independently engageable with the locking structure supported within a respective one of the plurality of openings to fasten the fastener receiving frame in relation to the fastener supporting member;

    a pusher for advancing the fastener supporting member into engagement with the fastener receiving frame; and

    an annular blade advanceable by the pusher to sever tissue, the annular blade defining a thickness, the plurality of perforations each defining a diameter, wherein the thickness of the annular blade is less than the diameter of each of the plurality of perforations,wherein the first and second annular portions are concentric and the plurality of perforations facilitate separation of the first annular portion from the second annular portion.
