1. A method, implemented at least in part by one or more computing devices, for presenting a user interface for facilitating user evaluation of past career decisions, the method comprising:
- presenting at least three stage cards representing different stages in a career history of a user;
responsive to activation of one of the at least three stage cards, presenting a user interface element for receiving a stage name to be assigned to the activated stage card;
presenting the stage name with the activated stage card;
presenting, on a first stage card of the at least three stage cards, a first group of ratings units representing a first ratings category of at least three ratings categories;
presenting, on the first stage card, a second group of ratings units representing a second ratings category of the at least three ratings categories;
presenting, on the first stage card, a third group of ratings units representing a third ratings category of the at least three ratings categories;
presenting, on a second stage card and a third stage card of the at least three stage cards, groups of ratings units representing the first, second and third ratings categories, respectively;
color-shading individual ratings units on the first, second and third stage cards according to user rating of the career history stages, the color-shading comprising applying the first, second and third ratings categories to the career history stages represented by the first, second and third stage cards, wherein the color-shaded ratings units are color-coded according to ratings category;
presenting a user interface element for selective viewing that is associated with the first ratings category, wherein activation of the user interface element for selective viewing causes a visual effect involving the color-shaded ratings units corresponding to both the second and third ratings categories in each of the first, second, and third stage cards; and
responsive to activation of the user interface element for selective viewing, generating the visual effect, wherein the visual effect comprises maintaining, in the first, second, and third stage cards, the color-shading of ratings units corresponding to the first ratings category and removing, from the first, second, and third stage cards, the color-shading of ratings units that do not correspond to the first ratings category.

Techniques and tools are described for facilitating user reflection on past decisions in order to determine trends and to assist in future decision-making. Technologies for administering a career history exercise and for visualizing results of the career history exercise are described. Visualizations include using stage cards representative of stages in a user'"'"'s career history. User ratings of the stages in his or her career history are displayed on the stage cards using color-shaded ratings units.

a processor; and memory storing computer-executable instructions for causing the computer system to perform a method of presenting a user interface for administering a career history exercise, the method comprising; presenting at least three stage cards representing different stages in a career history of a user; responsive to activation of a first stage card of the at least three stage cards by the user, presenting a first user interface element for receiving input of a first stage name to be assigned to the first stage card; presenting the first stage name with the first stage card; responsive to activation of a second stage card of the at least three stage cards by the user, presenting a second user interface element for receiving input of a second stage name to be assigned to the second stage card; presenting the second stage name with the second stage card; presenting on the first stage card at least a first, second, and third series of ratings units representing respectively the at least three ratings categories; presenting the first, second, and third series of ratings units on the second stage card; presenting the first, second, and third series of ratings units on a third stage card of the at least three stage cards; responsive to mouse gestures directed at individual ratings units, color-shading the individual ratings units, the color-shading comprising applying the first, second and third ones of the at least three ratings categories to the career history stages represented by the first, second and third ones of the at least three stage cards, wherein each series of ratings units is color-coded based on the corresponding ratings category, wherein the first, second, and third stage cards represent different periods of time in the career history of the user, and wherein the respective ratings categories are different job satisfaction metrics such that the respective stage cards indicate color-shaded ratings units for the different job satisfaction metrics during the corresponding period of time in the career history of the user; presenting the at least three stage cards with the respective stage names and with a portion of the ratings units color-shaded according to user rating of each stage in the career history; presenting a user interface element for selective viewing that is associated with the first one of the at least three ratings categories; and responsive to activation of the user interface element for selective viewing, maintaining color-shading of ratings units corresponding to the first one of the at least three ratings categories and removing color-shading of ratings units that do not correspond to the first one of the at least three ratings categories.

displaying three or more stage cards operable to be associated with a stage in a career history of a user; interpreting user input as an activation of one of the three or more displayed stage cards; receiving a stage name for the activated stage card; displaying the stage name associated with the activated stage card; displaying, on the activated stage card, a first plurality of ratings units representing a first ratings category of three or more ratings categories; displaying, on the activated stage card, a second plurality of ratings units representing a second ratings category of the three or more ratings categories; displaying, on the activated stage card, a third plurality of ratings units representing a third ratings category of the three or more ratings categories; receiving user ratings of the stage corresponding to the activated stage card for the first, second and third ratings categories; displaying the user ratings as color-shaded ratings units on the activated stage card, the color-shading comprising applying the first, second and third ratings categories to the activated stage card, wherein the color-shaded ratings units are color-coded according to the corresponding ratings category; displaying color-shaded ratings units on two additional stage cards of the three or more stage cards, wherein the color-shaded ratings units apply the first, second, and third ratings categories to the two additional stage cards; presenting a user interface element for selective viewing that is associated with the first ratings category, wherein activation of the user interface element for selective viewing causes a visual effect involving the color-shaded ratings units corresponding to both the second and third ratings categories in the activated stage card and the two additional stage cards; and responsive to activation of the user interface element for selective viewing, performing the visual effect, wherein the visual effect comprises maintaining, in the activated stage card and the two additional stage cards, color-shading of ratings units corresponding to the first ratings category and removing, from the activated stage card and the two additional stage cards, color-shading of ratings units that do not correspond to the first ratings category. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
