Abstract

Devices and methods for determining analyte levels are described. The devices and methods allow for the implantation of analyte-monitoring devices, such as glucose monitoring devices that result in the delivery of a dependable flow of blood to deliver sample to the implanted device. The devices include unique architectural arrangement in the sensor region that allows accurate data to be obtained over long periods of time.

Claims

1. An implantable optical-based continuous glucose sensing system, the system comprising:

an optical sensor configured to measure in vivo a signal indicative of glucose concentration, wherein the optical sensor is configured to be implanted;

sensor electronics operably connected to the sensor; and

a membrane configured to interface with tissue or a biological fluid;

wherein the membrane comprises an outer surface and an inner surface, wherein the outer surface of the membrane is more distal to the sensor than the inner surface of the membrane, wherein at least a portion of the outer surface of the membrane comprises metallization.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the metallization comprises platinum.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the metallization comprises vacuum deposited metal.

4. The system of claim 1, further comprising fluorescence sensing molecules configured to detect a presence or glucose.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the membrane is configured to protect the sensor from in vivo environmental conditions.

6. The system of claim 1, further comprising a radiation source.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the at least a portion of the outer surface of the membrane comprises partial metallization.
