1. A communications device, comprising:

  • an input interface;

    a transceiver;

    a microprocessor; and

    a computer readable memory, the computer readable memory holding microprocessor instructions that, when executed by the microprocessor, cause the communications device to;

    receive an input via the input interface;

    in response to the input, place a first outgoing telephone call to a call recipient that is not a public safety answering point;

    receive from the call recipient via the transceiver an electronic signal indicating that the first outgoing call is rejected by the call recipient, wherein the electronic signal indicating that the first outgoing call is rejected by the call recipient is received after the first telephone call reaches a person;

    in response to the receipt of the electronic signal indicating that the first outgoing call is rejected by the call recipient, prompt a user of the communications device for an indication that a second outgoing call is to be placed to a public safety answering point; and

    place the second outgoing call to the public safety answering point upon receipt of the indication from the user that the second outgoing call is to be placed.
