An actuation assembly for a surgical stapling instrument comprising a thrust bar, a knife assembly, a proximal slide member, a first distal slide member, and a second distal slide member, the proximal slide member positioned adjacent a first lateral side of the thrust bar, a distal portion of the proximal slide member rigidly affixed to the thrust bar, each of the first distal slide member and the second distal slide member being in direct contact with the thrust bar, the first distal slide member being fixed to a first portion of the thrust bar adjacent a distal portion of the thrust bar, the thrust bar having a longer length than a length of each of the first distal slide member and the second distal slide member, a distal portion of the first distal slide member being fixed from longitudinal movement with respect to the first portion of the thrust bar, a proximal portion of the first distal slide member being slidable with respect to the thrust bar, the knife assembly being directly coupled to a distal end portion of the thrust bar, wherein the knife assembly moves with the thrust bar.
