1. A stimulation system for applying pulsed radio frequency energy, said system comprising:

  • a flexible epidural catheter includinga mantle having a first end that is a distal end and a proximal region that is longitudinally apart from said distal end, said mantle defining a hose line therein, said hose line extending to a connector for receiving medicaments,at least first and second electrical contacts that are connected to said mantle to encase the end of said mantle, said first and second electrical contacts having respective electrical leads that are encased by said mantle and said first and second electrical contacts,a temperature sensor that is encased by said mantle and at least one of said first and second electrical contacts, said temperature sensor being responsive to temperature of at least one of said first and second electrical contacts, said temperature sensor having at least one lead that is separate from the leads of said first and second electrical contacts and that is encased inside said first and second electrical contacts and inside said mantle, anda distal aperture in said mantle, said distal aperture being in communication with said hose line and being located longitudinally in said mantle between said first and second electrical contacts,a connecting member that is secured to said mantle at a location in the proximal region of said mantle;

    a temperature measuring device that is continuously electrically connected to said temperature sensor through said connecting member, said temperature measuring device continuously measuring temperature that is sensed by said temperature sensor; and

    a pulse generator that is electrically connected through said connecting member to the electrical leads of said first and second electrical contacts, said pulse generator also being in continuous electrical communication with said temperature measuring device to provide pulsed, radio frequency electrical current to said first and second electrical contacts in response to continuous signals from said temperature measuring device, and wherein the pulse generator is configured to automatically switch off or temporarily suppress the pulsed radio frequency electrical current in response to the temperature measuring device measuring a temperature that exceeds an upper temperature limit of 42°
