1. A device for removing material from a vessel wall at a vascular site, comprising:

  • a cage having a longitudinal axis and configurable from a radially collapsed configuration to a radially expanded configuration relative to the longitudinal axis of the cage, the cage having an inner surface defining an interior space when the cage is in its radially expanded configuration, and a plurality of openings in communication with the interior space when the cage is in its radially expanded configuration,a material removing element operatively connected to the cage and positioned within the interior space of the cage, the material removing element being movable within the interior space of the cage along the longitudinal axis of the cage to remove material from the vessel wall.
