1. A surgical apparatus comprising:

  • an impactor tool having an elongated shaft defining a load axis, a head at a first end, and a second end configured to removably couple to a prosthetic;

    an orientation sensor configured to detect an actual orientation of the impactor tool;

    an orientation feedback device configured to selectively provide an orientation feedback signal;

    a controller configured to cause the orientation feedback device to provide the orientation feedback signal when the actual orientation of the impactor tool detected by the orientation sensor is substantially equal to a predetermined target orientation of the impactor tool associated with a desired implanted orientation of the prosthetic relative to the patient'"'"'s anatomy;

    an impact sensor configured to detect an actual effect of impacting the impactor tool; and

    an impact feedback device configured to selectively provide an impact feedback signal;

    wherein the controller is configured to cause the impact feedback device to provide the impact feedback signal when the actual effect of impacting the impactor tool detected by the impact sensor substantially meets or exceeds a target effect.
