1. A method of delivering targeted advertising to a user of a video system, the method comprising:

  • providing a video for playback to the user, the video including programming content and at least one advertisement;

    detecting a trick play command by the user; and

    in response to detecting the trick play command,pausing the playback of the video,presenting an alternative advertisement with an ad duration, andexecuting the trick play command after a period of time that is at least the length of the ad duration.
