1. A flow distributor for electrochemical separation, comprising:

  • a first side configured to be disposed outside of and proximate sides of a plurality of alternating ion depleting and ion concentrating compartments of a cell stack of an electrochemical separation device, and a second side arranged opposite the first side;

    a plurality of first passages, distinct from the plurality of alternating ion depleting and ion concentrating compartments of the cell stack, oriented in a first direction and each of the first passages configured to deliver feed directly to more than one of the plurality of ion depleting or ion concentrating compartments of the cell stack of the electrochemical separation device; and

    a plurality of second passages oriented in a second direction, the plurality of second passages in fluid communication with and proximate the plurality of first passages and configured to be disposed in fluid communication with an inlet manifold associated with the electrochemical separation device,the plurality of first and second passages constructed and arranged in cooperation to define a flow path between the first and second sides of the flow distributor.
