Abstract

Wireless radio apparatuses for point-to-point or point-to-multipoint transmission/communication of high bandwidth signals having dual receivers and transmitters. Radio devices and systems may include a pair of reflectors separated by an isolation choke boundary. The device may be configured to operate in any appropriate band (e.g., a 5 GHz band, a 24 GHz band, etc.) and may simultaneously transmit and receive with minimal crosstalk. The isolation choke boundary may have ridges that extend between the first and second parabolic reflectors to a height that may be tuned to the band. The isolation choke boundary provides greater than 10 dB isolation between the first and the second parabolic reflectors may be in a fixed configuration relative to each other so that they are aligned to send/receive in parallel. The two reflectors may be formed of a single housing, with fixed parallel alignment.

Claims

1. A radio device for transmission of wireless signals, the device comprising:

a reflector;

an antenna feed within the reflector;

radio circuitry configured for processing radio-frequency signals coupled to the antenna feed; and

an isolation choke boundary coupled to an outer edge of the reflector, wherein the isolation choke boundary comprises at least 10 ridges that each extend perpendicular to a plane of an opening of the reflector,

wherein the isolation choke boundary provides greater than 10 dB isolation from a second radio device having a second reflector when an outer edge of the second reflector is positioned adjacent to and in the plane of the reflector,

further wherein the isolation choke boundary overhangs an outer edge of the reflector.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the isolation choke boundary is mounted on the outer edge of the reflector.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein a first subset of the ridges of the isolation choke boundary follow a curvature of an outer edge of the reflector.

4. The device of claim 1, wherein the isolation choke boundary extends at least partially around the perimeter of the reflector.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein the radio circuitry is configured to process broadband radio-frequency signals between about 4 and about 8 GHz.

6. The device of claim 1, wherein at least some of the ridges of the isolation choke boundary comprise different heights.

7. The device of claim 1, wherein the channels between adjacent ridges of the isolation choke boundary are between 18.8 mm and 9.4 mm deep.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein ridges of the isolation choke boundary are arranged along a sinusoidal curve.

9. The device of claim 1, wherein the radio circuitry is configured for to process broadband radio-frequency signals between about 23 and about 25 GHz.

10. A radio device for transmission of wireless signals, the device comprising:

a parabolic reflector;

an antenna feed within the parabolic reflector;

a radio circuitry connected to the antenna feed and configured for processing of radio-frequency signals; and

an isolation choke boundary adjacent to and extending perpendicularly away from an outer perimeter of the parabolic reflector, wherein the isolation choke boundary comprises at least 10 ridges projecting outwardly perpendicular to a plane of an opening of the parabolic reflector,

wherein the isolation choke boundary provides greater than 10 dB isolation from a second radio device having a second reflector when an outer edge of the second reflector is positioned adjacent to and in the plane of the reflector.

11. The device of claim 10, wherein the isolation choke boundary is mounted to an outer edge of the parabolic reflector.

12. The device of claim 10, wherein a first subset of the ridges of the isolation choke boundary follow a curvature of an outer edge of the first parabolic reflector.

13. The device of claim 10, wherein the radio circuitry is configured for processing of broadband radio-frequency signals between about 4 and about 8 GHz.

14. The device of claim 10, wherein at least some of the ridges of the isolation choke boundary comprise different heights.

15. The device of claim 10, wherein the channels between adjacent ridges of the isolation choke boundary are between 18.8 mm and 9.4 mm deep.

16. The device of claim 10, wherein ridges of the isolation choke boundary are arranged along a sinusoidal curve.

17. The device of claim 10, wherein the isolation choke boundary overhangs an outer edge of the parabolic reflector.

18. The device of claim 10, wherein the radio circuitry is configured for processing of broadband radio-frequency signals between about 23 and about 25 GHz.

19. A radio device for transmission of wireless signals, the device comprising:

a reflector;

an antenna feed within the reflector;

radio circuitry configured for processing radio-frequency signals coupled to the antenna feed; and

an isolation choke boundary coupled to an outer edge of the reflector, wherein the isolation choke boundary comprises a plurality of ridges that each extend perpendicular to a plane of an opening of the reflector, and wherein ridges of the isolation choke boundary are arranged along a sinusoidal curve,

wherein the isolation choke boundary provides greater than 10 dB isolation from a second radio device having a second reflector when an outer edge of the second reflector is positioned adjacent to and in the plane of the reflector.
