1. An apparatus for retrieving material within a body lumen, the apparatus comprising:

  • an elongate cylindrical member including a proximal end, a distal end sized for introduction into a body lumen, the elongate cylindrical member defining an elongate cylindrical member lumen extending between the proximal end and the distal end of the elongate cylindrical member;

    a wire configured to be received within the elongate cylindrical member lumen, the wire including a proximal end and a distal end extending distally beyond the distal end of the elongate cylindrical member;

    a distal basket directly connected to the wire proximal to the distal end of the wire;

    a proximal basket connected to the distal end of the elongate cylindrical member proximal to and spaced apart from the distal basket;

    a middle mesh portion extending between the distal basket and the proximal basket; and

    a tubular member comprising a proximal end and a distal end sized for introduction into the body lumen, the tubular member defining a tubular member lumen extending between the proximal end and the distal end of the tubular member, the tubular member lumen receiving the elongate cylindrical member, wherein;

    the proximal and distal baskets are expandable from a contracted condition when disposed within the tubular member lumen to an expanded condition sized for capturing material within the proximal and distal baskets,the distal basket and the proximal basket each comprise an open end oriented towards one another, a circumferential wall, and a closed end opposite the open end,at least one of the baskets in the expanded condition is configured to be movable towards the other when the elongate cylindrical member or wire is moved relative to the other for substantially enclosing and capturing material within interiors of the baskets in the expanded condition,the baskets are biased to resiliently expand to the expanded condition upon being deployed, andthe baskets and the middle mesh portion each have a tubular mesh structure.
