1. An apparatus for applying reduced pressure to a wound, comprising:

  • an overlay comprising;

    a bottom layer made of a flexible material configured to be applied over a wound, the bottom layer being generally planar and having an upper surface and a lower surface, the lower surface comprising an adhesive, wherein the bottom layer has an elongated shape with an outer perimeter;

    a second layer made of a preformed non-planar, flexible material that is coupled with the bottom layer, the second layer having a preformed shape when coupled with the bottom layer, the second layer comprising;

    upwardly extending side walls that extend away from the upper surface of the bottom layer, anda generally planar upper portion that is substantially parallel to and spaced above and apart from the bottom layer to define a volume between the bottom layer, the upwardly extending side walls, and the upper portion of the second layer spaced above and apart from the bottom layer,wherein the generally planar upper portion of the second layer has an elongated shape having an outer perimeter that is smaller than the outer perimeter of the bottom layer;

    a port positioned nearer to a first end of the second layer than to an opposite second end of the second layer, the port configured to operably connect a reduced pressure source to the overlay through the upper portion to supply reduced pressure to the volume between the bottom layer, the upwardly extending side walls, and the upper portion of the second layer spaced above and apart from the bottom layer;

    wherein the overlay is adapted to maintain reduced pressure in the volume with the upper portion of the second layer spaced above and apart from the bottom layer; and

    a tubing member connected to the port configured to be connected with the reduced pressure source.
