1. A method, comprising:

  • receiving, at a user equipment, an indicator determined by a wireless access point, wherein the indicator represents a keep alive period to send at least one keep alive message to enable maintenance of at least one binding in at least one intermediate node;

    determining, by the user equipment and based on the received indication and an idle time, a timing for sending the at least one keep alive message, wherein the idle time represents a predetermined time during which the wireless access point will disassociate with the user equipment if the user equipment has not sent a transmission to the access point; and

    transmitting, by the user equipment and according to the determined timing, the at least one keep alive message to the wireless access point.
